20th Chicago Open
May 26-30, 2011

The 20th Annual Chicago Open was held at the Westin Chicago North Shore Hotel, Wheeling, IL, over the Memorial Day weekend, May 26-30, 2011. The prize fund for the tournament was $100,000 guaranteed!

The Open Section was won by Grandmaster Timur Gareyev. Going into the final round, four players were tied at the top on 6.5 points. Gareyev won his final round game against GM Tamaz Gelashvili while GMs Alejandro Ramirez and Pendyala Harikrishna battled out a fighting draw to give the Uzbekistan GM the title and a first prize of over $10,000. Ramirez and Harikrishna finished 2nd-4th along with GM Robert Hess who won his final round against IM Irina Krush. Those players collected $2,900 for their efforts.

FM Conrad Holt scored a GM norm after finishing with 6.5 points, which included wins over GM Josh Friedel and IMs Daniel Naroditsky and Sal Bercys.
